Mariemont's girls volleyball team heads into the OHSAA Division V postseason after finishing the regular season at 10-10 overall and 5-8 in the Cincinnati Hills League.
The Warriors closed their regular-season schedule with a trip to Reading on Thursday, Oct. 15. A result for that CHL match was not listed on the Mariemont athletics schedule as of Oct. 17.
Head coach Katie Davis's roster features four seniors: outside hitter Caroline Klekar, right side Kendall Barclay, setter Elle Seichter and defensive specialist Olivia Hoel. Juniors Amirah Cole, Annie Tully, Sydney McCann, Lily Beck and Penelope Karlson round out the varsity lineup alongside sophomore McKinley Wise and freshman Emma Miller.
Mariemont opened the season with three straight sweeps over Blanchester, Bethel-Tate and Deer Park before hitting a rough stretch in CHL play. The Warriors dropped matches to Madeira, Taylor, Wyoming and Indian Hill, all conference opponents who proved difficult on both sides of the home-and-away schedule. A non-league loss at The Seven Hills School on Sept. 14 extended the skid to six straight defeats.
The team's turnaround came in late September. Mariemont beat Miami Valley Christian Academy in three sets on Sept. 19, then took Batavia to five sets on Sept. 28 and won 15-13 in the decider. A sweep of Deer Park the next night made it three wins in four matches.
The Warriors carried that momentum into October. They swept Reading 3-0 on Oct. 6 in their final home match, then closed the home-and-away slate with a dominant sweep at Finneytown on Oct. 13, winning 25-2, 25-5 and 25-11. The streak stood at W1 entering the postseason.
Mariemont went 6-4 at home and 4-5 on the road during the regular season. The Warriors' lone neutral-site outing, at New Richmond on Aug. 29, ended in a two-set loss to Norwood, 25-19, 22-25, 24-26.
The OHSAA girls volleyball postseason begins Oct. 19, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Mariemont competes in Division V. The Warriors' specific first-round opponent and game site were not confirmed in available bracket information as of Oct. 17.
Last season Mariemont went 14-9 overall and 8-6 in conference play, according to MaxPreps. The drop to 5-8 in CHL play this year reflects a tougher road against the league's top programs.
