Mariemont's volleyball season ended Saturday, Oct. 31, with a straight-set loss to top-seeded Versailles in the OHSAA Division V Southwest District final at Monroe High School.
The fourth-seeded Warriors fell 15-25, 18-25, 16-25 to a Versailles program that won its 14th consecutive district championship, as first reported by the Daily Advocate. Mariemont kept the first set close at 10-10 before Versailles pulled away to win 25-15.
Versailles senior Hannah Luthman delivered back-to-back aces late in the opening set to break it open. In the second set, junior Allie Wietholter's 8-0 serving run put the Lady Tigers ahead and Mariemont could not recover, falling 18-25. A kill by senior Kiley May sealed the third set 25-16 and the match.
The district final loss capped a postseason run that carried the Warriors further than their regular-season record might have suggested. Mariemont opened the OHSAA tournament Oct. 21 with a 3-0 sweep of Clark Montessori at Lebanon High School, winning by set scores of 25-17, 25-7 and 25-12. Five days later, the Warriors swept Cincinnati Christian 3-0 in the district semifinal, winning 25-19, 25-13 and 25-13 to reach the title match.
Mariemont finished the season 13-11 overall and 6-8 in Cincinnati Hills League play, according to the team's athletics page. The Warriors posted a 6-4 record at home and went 5-5 on the road.
Two postseason sweeps carried a team with a .429 conference winning percentage all the way to the district championship match against the bracket's No. 1 seed. Mariemont ends the year as district runner-up.
