The Turpin Spartans boys soccer team routed Goshen 10-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 20, in the OHSAA sectional tournament.
The lopsided result extended a dominant season for the Eastern Cincinnati Conference champions. Turpin entered the postseason unbeaten, and the 10-goal shutout left little doubt about the Spartans' form heading deeper into the state tournament bracket.
The Spartans will host Woodward Career on Saturday, Oct. 24, at noon in the sectional tournament, according to Turpin High School Athletics on X.
Turpin stood at 11-0-4 after beating West Clermont 1-0 and La Salle 3-1 in early October, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. Senior Ethan Brandhorst then scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Lebanon that clinched the ECC title.
Several Spartans earned recognition along the way. Senior goalkeeper Lucas Kelley saved penalty kicks in wins over Madeira and ECC rival Anderson, according to an Enquirer athlete-of-the-week nomination on Sept. 28. Junior Connor Denning won the team's hard hat award after helping Turpin to a pair of wins and a share of first place in the ECC in early October. Junior defender Carson Lake was later named the team's hard hat leader for his role anchoring the back line, according to an Enquirer nomination on Oct. 12.
The defense carried the load all season. Turpin posted multiple 1-0 victories during conference play and held Goshen scoreless while the attack poured in 10 goals Tuesday.
The OHSAA boys soccer calendar shows the sectional tournament running through Oct. 24. District play begins Oct. 26, with regionals set for the week of Nov. 3 and the state finals scheduled for Nov. 13-16.
Saturday's noon kickoff against Woodward Career will be at Turpin's home field.
