Terrace Park is preparing to end its decades-long water service relationship with Indian Hill Water Works and switch to Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW).

Terrace Park Council held a first reading of an ordinance to begin the transition at its Oct. 26 meeting, according to a FAQ page posted by the Village of Indian Hill. The two villages had been discussing long-term alternatives for Terrace Park's water supply in recent months, the FAQ stated.

Indian Hill said it presented Terrace Park with a proposal to continue providing water distribution service and to take on what it described as aging infrastructure "that has not been properly maintained by Terrace Park." Terrace Park chose GCWW instead.

In response, Indian Hill delivered a formal one-year notice to terminate its current contract with Terrace Park. Indian Hill said the termination was necessary because the village needs to submit a revised General Plan to the EPA for a smaller, less expensive facility to remove per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from its water. Terrace Park's departure shrinks Indian Hill's customer base, changing the size of the treatment plant required. Indian Hill faces an EPA-mandated deadline of April 2029 for PFAS compliance.

Indian Hill said it will continue providing water to Terrace Park "on a mutually acceptable basis" while the transition to GCWW is completed.

Terrace Park's next council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. in the Community Building, according to the village's announcements page.
