Turpin shut out West Clermont 1-0 on Thursday, Oct. 1, holding the Wolves to zero shots on goal in an Eastern Cincinnati Conference road match.
The Turpin High School athletics account posted the final on X, confirming the Spartans did not allow a single shot attempt across 80 minutes. For a team that has allowed just 12 goals all season, the performance still stood out.
Senior Sam Harding provided the only offense Turpin needed. He scored in the first half to put the Spartans ahead 1-0 at the break. Harding, listed as a defender/midfielder on MaxPreps, leads Turpin with 18 goals and 49 shots on the season. His versatility has been a defining feature of the Spartans' attack. He has scored in matches against Anderson, Middletown, Princeton and now West Clermont, among others.
The Wolves never threatened.
Senior goalkeeper Lucas Kelley anchored the back line. Kelley carries a 0.884 goals-against average this season. Earlier in September, he saved penalty kicks in wins over Madeira and rival Anderson. The Cincinnati Enquirer included him on its athlete-of-the-week ballot published Sept. 28, citing those saves.
The win pushed head coach Jamie Harloff's squad to 10-0-4 overall and 4-0-2 in ECC play, good for second in the conference standings. Turpin has outscored opponents 35-12 on the season. The Spartans remain unbeaten, with their four draws coming against Kings, Covington Catholic, Madeira and Little Miami.
The 10-0-4 mark is a significant climb from mid-September, when Turpin stood at 7-0-3 overall and 3-0-1 in the ECC after a Sept. 19 win over Middletown. Since then, the Spartans have won three more and drawn once without a loss. Along the way, they blanked Milford 2-0, edged Anderson 3-2 and beat Princeton 1-0 before Thursday's shutout of West Clermont.
Turpin travels to La Salle on Saturday, Oct. 3, at noon. The Spartans return to ECC play with a home match against Loveland on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m., then visit Lebanon on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m.
