Turpin's varsity girls volleyball team fell to 0-5 on the season after Milford swept the Spartans in three sets Thursday, Sept. 3, at Klinger.

The Eagles won the opening set 25-20, pulled away in the second 25-16 and took the third 25-18 to complete the sweep. Turpin trailed in every set but kept the first and third within striking distance before Milford pulled clear.

The loss extended a winless start for the Spartans. Turpin has dropped all five matches this season in straight sets, falling to Seton on Aug. 20, Harrison on Aug. 22 and Loveland in a conference match on Aug. 25, according to MaxPreps. Turpin also played Walnut Hills on Aug. 27, though no result from that match has been reported to MaxPreps.

The freshmen were the bright spot.

Turpin's freshman squad beat Milford 2-1, taking the first set 25-20, dropping the second 21-25 and rallying to win the deciding third set 25-19.

The JV squad fell 2-1 to Milford. Turpin won the second set 25-18 after dropping the first 19-25 but could not carry that momentum into the third, losing 13-25.

Turpin's next chance to find the win column comes Saturday, Sept. 5, at home against Archbishop McNicholas. The Rockets entered the week at 3-1 and ranked third in the Cincinnati Enquirer's Greater Cincinnati power rankings as of Sept. 1. McNicholas beat Sycamore and league rival Carroll before topping Notre Dame in what the Enquirer called the Rockets' first real test of the season. Their lone loss came in a reverse sweep at Fenwick.

The Enquirer's rankings also noted that Seton, the top-ranked team in Greater Cincinnati at 7-0, had already beaten both Turpin and Milford earlier this season.

Saturday's schedule at Klinger lists freshman play at 10 a.m., JV at 11 a.m. and varsity at noon.
