Trail crews are on the ground at W.M. Johnson Hills Park in Anderson Township, where improvement work on the Blue Trail is underway.
The Anderson Township Park District announced the project in a public notice Wednesday, Sept. 16, describing the work as a natural surface trail renovation. The notice, authored by Park District staff member Becky Erickson, did not include a timeline for completion or detail the specific scope of improvements.
The project is funded by the 1-mill capital levy voters approved in November 2023. That levy backs the district's 25-year Park Improvement Plan, which targets six categories the district calls "the 6 Ps": Paths, Potties, Parking, Playgrounds, Pickleball and Playability.
Other 2026 levy projects
The Johnson Hills trail renovation is one of four capital levy projects slated for 2026, according to the Park District's July 14 board agenda. The full list:
- W.M. Johnson Hills Park — natural surface trail renovation (underway)
- Laverty Park — new restroom, maintenance storage, ADA access and parking lot renovation
- Clear Creek Bike Park — bike park and path
- Riverside Park — ballfield infield conversion (completed March 2026)
The Riverside Park project was the first 2026 levy project to finish. Crews converted ballfields No. 2 through No. 5 from dirt infields to synthetic turf and added lighting for extended play. The upgrades also included new backstops, upgraded infield fencing, new player benches and a drinking fountain with a bottle filler.
Three more 2026 projects remain on the board. The Laverty Park and Clear Creek Bike Park timelines have not been announced.
