Anderson Township residents who want a hand in shaping local parks, zoning or senior services have until Thursday, Oct. 1, to apply for seats on six standing committees or the township's Event Corps volunteer team.
The Board of Trustees appoints all six committees annually. Four carry one-year terms: the Anderson Plan Implementation Committee, the Senior Center Advisory Committee, the Tree Committee and the Greater Anderson Township Betterment Committee. Two carry five-year terms for full members or one-year terms for alternates: the Zoning Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals.
The Plan Implementation Committee's current focus areas include recycling, mobility, native plantings, natural-resource preservation and workforce development. Those priorities align with the township's ongoing Comprehensive Plan update, a separate effort gathering resident input on housing, transportation and economic development to guide decisions over the next 10 to 20 years.
The Tree Committee manages healthy street trees and guides the township's planting program. The Betterment Committee, a nonprofit arm, supports behind-the-scenes work on community-wide improvement projects.
The Zoning Commission hears cases involving changes to the township zoning map or zoning resolution, while the Board of Zoning Appeals reviews appeals and development-related applications.
For residents who prefer shorter commitments, the Event Corps provides volunteer support for events like the July 4 Parade, the Anderson Garden and History Tour and special holiday gatherings. No trustee approval is needed. Additional short-term opportunities include adopting a roadway, assisting at the senior center, leading a greenspace cleanup or painting fire hydrants.

The Oct. 1 deadline applies to both committee and Event Corps applications. The township has not announced how many seats are open on each committee or when trustees will formally review applications.
