Anderson Township is launching a new holiday tradition, and it wants neighbors to supply the art.
The township called for proposals for "Nights of Township Lights" on July 15, a month-long celebration launching Saturday, Dec. 5, at Anderson Center. Artists, families and community groups can submit plans for interactive sculptural light installations to be staged around the center's lake and plaza.
Proposals are due by Monday, Sept. 1. The township will notify accepted participants by Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Steve Sievers, Anderson Township's assistant administrator for operations, first pitched the concept to the Board of Trustees at its Thursday, Feb. 12, meeting. He described a passive event that would let residents "enjoy the 'third-place aspect' of Anderson Center during the holiday season, with community-made, stationary displays," according to the meeting minutes.
The final call for participants, which Sievers authored on the township website, broadens that vision. Installations should focus on lighting and interaction, with an overall holiday-season feel. The township encourages participants to reflect how they celebrate the season through food, festivities or family traditions.

The new event is separate from the annual Anderson Holiday Fest, a single-evening celebration held at Anderson Towne Center that most recently took place Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025.
