Small-business owners who lost their retail booths when Painted Tree Boutiques filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in April are reopening under a new name at the same Montgomery Road location.

The Collective Boutique holds its soft opening Saturday, Aug. 1, at 11315 Montgomery Rd. in the Harper's Point area, with a grand opening set for Saturday, Aug. 29. The shop will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, according to a community Facebook post advertising the launch.

The venture occupies the former Painted Tree space and follows the same shared-retail model: individual vendors rent booth space and sell directly to shoppers. A group of displaced vendors purchased 12 former Painted Tree sites across the tri-state region and launched The Collective Boutique concept, Fox 19 reported Thursday.

Vendor Audrey Allen, whose booth was among those displaced in April, told Fox 19 the transition has been fast out of necessity.

"I will never be grateful for what happened, but it's giving us the opportunity to have a new chapter that's more stable than anything else this concept could be," Allen said.

Painted Tree closed all of its more than 60 locations nationwide on April 13 and notified vendors by email the following day, giving them 10 days to retrieve their merchandise. Vendors had already paid April rent, which ranged from $150 to $1,300 per month depending on booth size. The company also collected a 10% commission on all sales. Most displaced vendors became unsecured creditors in the bankruptcy proceedings with uncertain prospects of recovering their losses.

Among those returning to the Montgomery Road space is Jakob Jordan, who has apraxia and autism and communicates with the help of an iPad. Jordan owns Cards by Jakob, a card and art business he runs with his mother, Jen Jordan.

"A lot of hearts were broken when Painted Tree closed. A lot of small businesses took huge hits — many closed forever," Jen Jordan told Fox 19. "They're now being given a second chance."

Other vendors setting up at the location include Lauren Mosley of Saw Dust and Cedar, Glen Comstock of Scratching Post, Wendy Critcher of Vintage Boutique and Crooked Creek Lifestyle. Ria Bleu, a boho-inspired women's clothing and accessories brand, is also opening a booth at the Montgomery Road site, according to the company's website.

Vendor spots remain available. The grand opening on Aug. 29 will mark the location's full launch for Anderson Township, Kenwood, Madeira, and Blue Ash shoppers.
