Four more Anderson Township roads have reopened after the Aug. 11 storms, but drivers should still avoid Mt. Carmel Road between Broadwell Road and Appleblossom Drive, where Duke Energy crews continue clearing downed lines.
The township posted an update on Friday, Aug. 14, confirming that as of Saturday morning, Aug. 15, the following segments are passable:
- Newtown Road south of Bartels Road
- Salem Road between Wayside Avenue and Applehill Road
- Newtown Road between Stirrup (Turpin Hills) and Lawyer Road
- Asbury Road north of Ayers Road
Township spokesperson Steve Sievers credited Duke Energy's ongoing clearance work across Greater Cincinnati for the reopenings. No timeline was given for when Mt. Carmel Road will reopen. The township said it will continue posting updates as Duke Energy shares them.
The closures stem from Tuesday, Aug. 11 storms that brought wind gusts approaching 70 mph across the region, downing trees and power lines. The storms knocked out power to 260,000 Duke Energy customers at their peak, according to WLWT, more than double the impact of Hurricane Helene in 2024.
As reported Thursday, tens of thousands of customers remained without power mid-week. As of Saturday, Aug. 15, about 13,000 Duke Energy customers were still in the dark across the Tri-State, according to WVXU. Hamilton County Engineer Eric Beck said on Thursday, Aug. 13 that about nine county roadways were still closed, with crews waiting on Duke Energy to remove downed lines before finishing cleanup.
Duke Energy storm director Andy Cassidy warned on Aug. 13 that "some outages, particularly those involving broken poles, downed lines or significant equipment damage, may require more time to repair," according to Fox 19.
More than 2,000 lineworkers, tree trimmers and storm workers from Indiana and the Carolinas have been deployed to assist with restoration.
Duke Energy advises residents to stay away from downed or sagging power lines and anything touching them, treating all lines as energized and dangerous. Residents with storm debris can drop it off at Bzak Landscaping, 3295 Turpin Lane (off State Route 32), Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
