Mariemont boys soccer is one win from a district title after blanking Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy 1-0 in the OHSAA Division IV district semifinal Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Kusel Stadium.
The Warriors will play top-seeded Oakwood in the district final at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Princeton High School's Jake Sweeney Automotive Stadium, according to the Mariemont athletics schedule.
Mariemont improved to 11-3-3 on the season and has won three straight. The Warriors opened the tournament with an 8-0 rout of Bethel-Tate on Oct. 24 at Kusel Stadium. Junior Bryce Young scored three goals in that quarterfinal, earning a nomination for the Cincinnati Enquirer's small-school boys soccer player of the week.
The goal scorer in the CHCA semifinal was not immediately available.
Head coach Erik Vanags, who reached his 200th career coaching win with Mariemont in August, according to the Mariemont Athletic Boosters, has guided the Warriors through a Cincinnati Hills League schedule and into the postseason on a strong defensive run. Mariemont posted shutouts in both tournament games.
Oakwood enters the final at 15-3-1 after an 8-0 district semifinal win over Springfield Shawnee on Oct. 27, the Springfield News-Sun reported. Jack Morrissey scored three goals for the Lumberjacks in that win.
Mariemont and Oakwood met during the regular season on Sept. 26 at Kusel Stadium. The Warriors won that matchup 2-1.
Saturday's district final kicks off at 5 p.m. at Jake Sweeney Automotive Stadium in Princeton.
