The Mariemont Warriors girls soccer team hits the road Tuesday, Aug. 18, traveling to Batavia High School for a JV-Varsity doubleheader against the Bulldogs. JV kicks off at 5 p.m., with the varsity contest following at 7 p.m.

It's the Warriors' first away game of the 2026-27 fall season.

Mariemont opened its campaign Friday, Aug. 14, at Ross High School with a similar JV-varsity pairing. The Batavia trip marks the program's second set of games in five days as the Warriors settle into their early-season schedule.

Mariemont athletic director Tom Nerl announced the road trip on X on Aug. 18, wishing the team good luck ahead of the doubleheader.

The matchup pits two programs returning prolific senior forwards. Addy Zawaly, a Wisconsin commit ranked the No. 5 girls soccer player in Ohio by the Cincinnati Enquirer entering the season, led Mariemont to a 16-4 record last fall with 20 goals and 11 assists. She earned All-American honors and shared Cincinnati Hills League Player of the Year with Allie McCauley after the 2025 season.

Batavia counters with senior forward Averie Layman, who scored 30 goals with 12 assists in 2025 while guiding the Bulldogs to a 12-5-3 record. Layman was named SBAAC-American Player of the Year and earned Division III all-state and all-region recognition.

Both players are back for their final high school seasons, making the varsity game a showcase of two of the area's most productive forwards.

The game is a non-conference contest. Mariemont competes in the Cincinnati Hills League, while Batavia plays in the SBAAC. The Warriors' CHL schedule includes matchups against Madeira, Indian Hill, Wyoming, CHCA, Deer Park, Reading and Finneytown later this fall, with home games at Kusel Stadium.

Mariemont's next game after Batavia is Saturday, Aug. 22, at Grandview Heights High School with an 11:30 a.m. kickoff, according to the Mariemont athletics schedule.
