Rooted Juicery + Kitchen, the organic juice-and-smoothie brand that once operated on Mariemont's square, has permanently closed its Oakley flagship after July flooding filled the basement with more than two feet of water.

After shutting the Oakley doors on Friday, the company soft-opened a new stall inside Element Eatery, a food hall at 5350 Medpace Way in Madisonville.

The closure ends an 11-year run on Madison Road in Oakley Square. It also marks the loss of the brand's last standalone storefront. At its peak, Rooted Juicery operated four locations: Oakley, Over-the-Rhine, Mariemont and downtown Cincinnati. The Mariemont, downtown and OTR shops all closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The July 17 storm that forced the decision dumped between 4.4 and 6.6 inches of rain on Oakley in a short window, the Enquirer reported. A Duck Creek floodgate on Madison Road failed to close, and Oakley logged 33 of the city's 165 flood-related incident calls, the most of any neighborhood.

The basement took two feet of water.

Fox 19 reported that Rooted Juicery posted on social media July 20 that its team was still "navigating the aftermath" of the damage. Eleven days later, the company announced the permanent closure and the Element Eatery move.

The business said the Element Eatery location had originally been planned for April but was delayed.

For Mariemont residents who frequented the brand's former square location, the nearest option is now the Over-the-Rhine market at 1218 Vine Street, open Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., per the company's website. The Element Eatery stall in Madisonville, about a 15-minute drive from Mariemont, offers a second option once fully operational.

Local 12 reported the company framed the move as "a new chapter" while acknowledging the loss was "bittersweet." The brand is known for cold-pressed juices, smoothie bowls, breakfast sandwiches, and salads made from organic ingredients.

Element Eatery houses 10 food vendors, a 48-tap beer garden, an outdoor patio and a live-event venue, with eateries open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
