The Turpin Spartans freshman football team beat the Anderson Raptors 28-8 on Saturday, Oct. 3, delivering a win for Turpin on a rivalry day Anderson dominated at the varsity level.
The Forest Hills matchup was tied 8-8 at halftime. Turpin shut out Anderson in the second half, scoring 20 unanswered points to pull away.
Turpin High School Athletics posted the final score on X along with a halftime update that showed the 8-8 tie. The account confirmed the 28-8 final with the hashtag #spartanstrong.
The varsity game told a different story. Anderson won 66-21 over visiting Turpin, according to WCPO. Anderson moved to 6-1 on the season with six consecutive wins and holds the No. 1 spot in the Division II, Region 8 computer points standings.
But the freshman result gave Turpin something to cheer about.
Turpin's freshmen entered the Anderson game on a long winning streak. The squad was 5-0 through its first five games this season, including a 51-8 rout of Loveland on Sept. 19. The Anderson win extends that unbeaten run, though the team's exact record is unclear because results between the Loveland game and the Oct. 3 rivalry matchup were not available.
The second-half shutout was the defining stretch. After Anderson matched Turpin through two quarters, the Spartans' freshmen allowed nothing in the final two and put up three more scores to seal the win.
No individual player statistics or coaching comments were available for the freshman game. Turpin's freshmen have not lost this season.
