Hamilton County voters approved Issue 10, renewing and increasing the children’s services levy, in the Nov. 3 election.

The Hamilton County Board of Elections’ unofficial results showed 191,100 votes for the levy, or 56.58%, and 146,651 against it, or 43.42%. The measure led by 44,449 votes.

The report was timestamped 11:27 p.m. Nov. 3 and listed all 563 precincts reporting. These are preliminary totals pending the canvass and certification.

What the levy supports

WCPO’s election-night report said the levy funds Hamilton County Job and Family Services work including child abuse and neglect investigations, family reunification, adoption and foster care support.

The station reported that the levy had helped more than 13,000 children in the previous year. It described the new measure as expected to generate about $116 million annually.

Homeowner costs

WCPO reported an estimated annual cost of about $121 per $100,000 of home value for the approved levy. That is an illustrative levy estimate, rather than the total property tax bill for an individual household.

In its Nov. 4 election roundup, Axios described the children’s services measure as a four-year renewal and increase.
