Ohio voters approved Issue 3, the constitutional amendment concerning voter photo identification, according to Decision Desk HQ.
DDHQ called the measure for passage at 11:44 p.m. EST on Nov. 3. Its statewide tally updated at 5:40 a.m. EST on Nov. 4 showed 2,934,246 yes votes, or 65.33%, and 1,556,866 no votes, or 34.67%, with more than 95% of the estimated vote counted.
Those are reported, unofficial totals. A news organization’s projection is distinct from the state’s certification of the final election results.
What Issue 3 covers
The Ohio Secretary of State’s pre-election notice described Issue 3 as a proposed constitutional amendment requiring voters to present photo identification when voting. It directed voters to the full text, official ballot language, certified explanation and arguments for and against the proposal.
Hamilton County’s vote
The Hamilton County Board of Elections’ Nov. 3 report recorded 196,610 yes votes, or 58.60%, and 138,884 no votes, or 41.40%, on Issue 3.
That county report was timestamped 11:27 p.m. and listed all 563 precincts reporting. The Hamilton County figures are a county subtotal, not the statewide result. Both sets of figures remain subject to the post-election canvass and certification.
