Republican U.S. Rep. Dave Taylor won reelection in Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District, defeating Democrat Jen Mazzuckelli, according to Decision Desk HQ.

DDHQ’s districtwide tally updated at 3:40 a.m. EST Nov. 4 showed Taylor with 175,411 votes, or 64.24%, and Mazzuckelli with 97,638 votes, or 35.76%. Taylor’s lead was 77,773 votes, with more than 95% of the estimated vote counted.

The figures replace an earlier rounded estimate in this article. They remain unofficial and may change before certification.

A southern Ohio district

The district stretches across southern Ohio from the Cincinnati suburbs toward the West Virginia border, according to WVXU’s pre-election candidate guide. These are districtwide returns, rather than a Hamilton County subtotal.

Taylor, of Amelia, is a businessman and former prosecutor. His campaign biography identifies him as a graduate of Amelia High School, Miami University in Ohio and the University of Dayton School of Law. He worked in the local prosecutor’s office before returning to the family concrete business, Sardinia Ready Mix.

The candidates’ backgrounds

In candidate-supplied information published by WVXU, Taylor listed service on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and Agriculture Committee, along with co-chairmanship of the Congressional Rural Broadband Caucus.

The same guide described Mazzuckelli as a first-time candidate with experience in human resources and as a high school English teacher. She won the Democratic primary against Todd Wilson.

Taylor’s campaign emphasizes border security, lower taxes and support for law enforcement. Mazzuckelli’s questionnaire responses emphasized consumer and environmental protections and broader infrastructure investment.
