Mariemont snapped a three-game losing streak Friday, Oct. 9, beating Reading 22-14 on the road at Veterans Memorial Stadium in a Cincinnati Hills League game.

The Warriors (4-4, 2-3 CHL) led 14-7 through three quarters and held off a late Reading rally to win by eight, according to Mariemont's athletics schedule.

The game moved quickly from the opening kickoff. Quiambao broke a big return early, putting the Warriors on Reading's 30-yard line and giving Mariemont strong field position. But the first half stayed tight. A Warriors drive stalled 10 yards short of the end zone, and the teams went to the break knotted at 7-7.

Mariemont Athletic Director Tom Nerl, who live-tweeted the game on X, captured the halftime mood:

@mmontad: "Fast paced game at Reading tonight. Defense makes the stand, Warriors look and ladder ends up 10 yards short. At the half, 7 all"

The defense took over in the third quarter. Kruetz anchored a stand that stuffed Reading at the 8-yard line with 5:33 left in the period. Nerl wrote that Kruetz "leads the crush again," suggesting it was not his first big stop of the night. The Warriors carried a 14-7 lead into the fourth.

The exact fourth-quarter scoring sequence is not confirmed, but both teams found the end zone. Mariemont pushed its lead to 22-14 while Reading scored seven to keep it within one possession. When the Blue Devils attempted an onside kick to get the ball back, Natch pounced on the loose ball, giving Mariemont possession at its own 42-yard line and sealing the win.

The victory ended a brutal CHL stretch. Mariemont had lost three straight conference games: 48-7 to Indian Hill on Sept. 18, 45-10 at Wyoming on Sept. 25 and 17-0 to Deer Park on Oct. 2. The Warriors had not won since beating Taylor 17-7 on Sept. 11.

Before the skid, Mariemont opened the season 3-1 with non-conference wins over Clermont Northeastern (33-0) and Norwood (49-6) and a loss at Williamsburg (27-14).

The Warriors travel to Finneytown on Friday, Oct. 16, for another CHL matchup. Mariemont closes the regular season at home against Madeira on Friday, Oct. 23, for Senior Night.
