Archbishop McNicholas senior Ella McConnell ran a personal-best 20:00.2 to win the girls race at the Eaton Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19, finishing first in a field of 165 runners.

The victory gave the Anderson Township school's cross country program its biggest individual result of the young season. McConnell, racing in the girls varsity division at the Preble County invitational, pulled away from a packed field that drew programs from across the region.

Freshman Will Harris added to the Rockets' haul. Harris placed 14th out of 183 runners in the boys race, posting a personal record in just his first fall of high school competition.

The two headline performances were part of a broader breakout for the McNicholas program. The McNick Running Instagram account noted that several other Rockets runners also set personal records at the invitational, calling it a team-wide effort.

McNicholas Athletics said on X on Monday, Sept. 21, that the Eaton meet represented a standout weekend for the program. The department highlighted both McConnell's race win and Harris's top-15 finish among the day's results.

The Eaton Invitational is one of the larger cross country gatherings on the fall calendar, with nearly 350 runners between the boys and girls fields. For McConnell, the win against that level of competition marks a step forward heading into the postseason stretch. For Harris, cracking the top 15 as a freshman signals depth behind the Rockets' upperclassmen.

McNicholas competes out of its Beechmont Avenue campus and fields runners across multiple divisions during the fall season. The program's next scheduled meet had not been publicly posted as of Tuesday, Sept. 22, but the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) postseason is approaching in October.
