Rune Kitchen + Juicery has shut down its Mariemont location at 6844 Wooster Pike after about three and a half years in business.

The vegan café and juice bar announced the closure Oct. 18 in an Instagram post, pointing to staffing challenges, seasonal slowdowns and the demands of growing its Northside location. The business said it will concentrate on the Northside shop, which opened in June.

"Between the challenges of staffing this location, the seasonal slowdown, and the demands of growing our Northside location, maintaining both spaces in the way we want to simply isn't sustainable for us anymore," the post read.

Owner Caleb Cornelius declined to comment beyond the social media announcement, the Cincinnati Business Courier reported, via Local 12.

The Wooster Pike shop originally opened in early 2023, according to CityBeat. The business specializes in plant-based fare including smoothie bowls, sandwiches and baked goods.

No exact closing date was announced, though online ordering for the Mariemont location was already unavailable as of the Business Courier's Oct. 19 report.

In the Instagram post, the business framed the decision as growth rather than retreat. "We don't see this as a defeat, but as a stepping stone in Rune's growth," the post said. "We've reached a point where our vision for Rune has outgrown what our Mariemont space can accommodate."

The post also thanked the Mariemont community, noting support during "my surgery and recovery last year."

The Northside location, which the business described as "thriving," will expand its food offerings, according to the announcement.
